Gloucestershire’s Severn Sound - Public File
Each local commercial radio station in the UK has requirements in respect of its music and local content, such as news, speech levels etc. These requirements are set out in the station "Format", a document issued by Ofcom, the UK's radio regulator.
This Public File contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for our local community.
1. News Bulletin Schedule
News Bulletin Schedule including which bulletins provides local news and which provide only UK-wide bulletins.
Gloucestershire’s Severn Sound (Severn Sound) broadcasts news bulletins on the half-hour between 0600 and 0900 and hourly from 0900 and 1900 on weekdays.
These bulletins contain a full mix of local, national and world stories, along with sport, weather and entertainment news.
At the weekend, bulletins containing local, national and world news are broadcast on Severn Sound between 0800 and 1300. Additional national bulletins are broadcast from 2200 through until 0500 seven days a week.

5. Automated Programming (The average number of hours of automated programming within weekday daytimes and within daytimes on Saturdays and Sundays)
Non Stop Lunch show (Mon - Fri 12am - 1pm) is the only automated programme on Severn Sound during weekday or weekend daytimes.
6. Local Programming (The amount of local programming per day produced by the station)
On weekdays, the station's breakfast show (6 - 10am), Non Stop Lunch show (12am - 1pm) and Drivetime show (2 -7pm), are produced locally.
The rest of the daily output is broadcast across “The One Network” from various locations outside Gloucestershire.
At weekends, the programme airing between 8am - midday is produced locally. The rest of the daily output is broadcast across “The One Network” from various locations outside Gloucestershire.

9. Events/charities support or coverage
The Severn Sound Money Mountain is part of Gcap Charities and is a registered charity (1091657) that raises money exclusively for Gloucestershire charities and community groups. Since it was established in 1981, it has raised over £1.4 million.
Since it was established the Money Mountain has helped hundreds of charities and community groups within Gloucestershire. In March 2008 Money Mountain gave out 20 grants ranging from a couple of hundred pounds to a few thousand.
Severn Sound also offers publicity to a wide range of local organisations and charities by providing daily public service announcements broadcast at various times on the day.
This year Severn Sound has been media partner for “T-Day” Gloucestershire’s only dress down fundraising day. Race For Life in Gloucester and Cheltenham and many other events including Gloucester Festival.
In June 2008 Severn Sound teamed up with the “v” Charity to give away £30,000 of funding young volunteering opportunities in the community.
We also regularly visit and open charitable fairs, open days and fetes with Severn Sound’s Thunders. In the last twelve months, we have attended approximately 200 such events in Gloucestershire.

10. Recent programme and/or news highlights
• In June 2008 Severn Sound supported local bands and music and ran an on-air competition to find acts to play on-stage at the radio stations stage at the Three Counties show.
• In June 2008 Severn Sound received a nomination in “The Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards 2008” in recognition for the station’s social action initiative taken during the Gloucestershire floods in July 2007.
• In June 2008 Severn Sound teamed up with the “v” Charity to give away £30,000 of funding young volunteering opportunities in the community.
